Finally, we can announce the release date of the Combat Beta!
This first playable version of Realms Beyond will be available next Friday, the 15th of May 2020 for all Kickstarter backers at that tier. If you’re one of them, you’ll receive a Steam Key via email from backerKit.
For backers whose rewards include only the Early-Access or the release version itself, please be informed that the Combat Beta evolved significantly further than originally planned. Divergent to the original idea of demonstrating only the combat system, we decided to implement most of the other game components as well (namely the dialogue system, quests, journal, mini map, script, chests, doors, trading, etc.).
Therefore, the development time from this version to the next release, the Early-Access, will be much shorter than originally scheduled.
As soon as we delivered the Combat Beta, we’ll create a gameplay video for all backers without direct access to this version.
We would like to note that the Combat Beta is still a beta version, with all the flaws that entails.
Many thanks for your patience and understanding!

Brilliant! You want to see the end result. ;)

Hello from France,
Is there a developper or a backer who plans to make a live stream on youtube ?
I would enjoy to discover the game !!! :D :D :D
-
Fantastic news :)
As someone who has recently returned to PC gaming after many years as a console gamer and only discovered this game in the last few weeks, is it still possible to jump onboard with the Kickstarter in any way so as to try out the demo, or is it now the case of waiting for early-access? Sorry if I've overlooked this somewhere...
Oh, and hi by the way!

Hey Howlett,
welcome to our forums.
The combat beta/demo is for Kickstarter backers at certain tiers only. It's still an unpolished beta version including bugs + missing features, therefore we need to limit the number of testers.
Early-Access will be the next available release later this year (exact date is not decided yet).
-
Woohooo, good news and thx to all developers for their hard work.
Are there any plans to livestream a gamplay video of the combat demo later this year or after the combat beta phase before full game release?
(PS: I ask with intention of many home office workers in this days.) 8)
-
Perfect work Guys !
Please if someone can stream or upload on youtube the full combat demo plz ?
-
What tier do you have to be at to receive the combat demo?
-
Anyone see an email with a key yet?
-
We haven't sent out the keys yet, please stand by, soon...
-
We've just sent Steam Keys to all backers with access to the Combat Beta!
-
Thank you HobGoblin42.
-
How long might it take to receive our key's? Yes, I've checked again to ensure that I did indeed pay for the Combat Beta. Thank you!

I saw updated #24 from KickStarter, but I don't see any email from BackerKit. I did pledge at the
Digital Edition + Combat Beta + EA Level. Checked spam folder, but nothing so far.
-
Me too. Thank you for replying. It's good to know I'm not alone. I am also on the other side if the world from Cere's, so depending on how they set up the release, I supose we just have to be a little more patient. :D Thanks again!
-
To all of you. Don't wait for any email. Go to BackerKit. There you will find your Combat Beta key. And don't change the resolution to Full Screen after launching the game.
-
We actually don't really know when backerKit processes the digital download emails.
Usually it only takes 30-45 minutes after we initiated it.
-
Good news !
(and happy to be part of it)
-
didn't get my backer key spent over 170$ anyone know why like to get into the beta which i thought was included at that backer rate
-
Hi guys. I did had a backerkit mail... for a badge forum.
I have the 75€ Good Old Box tiers... who don't say, I've just seen, that I can access to the combat beta... although the tiers BEFORE AND AFTER have it ^^
It's a bug or a feature?

The regular Gold Box Tier at 75 EUR doesn't include with the Combat Beta, but the one for 100 EUR does.

The tiers editions at 50€ and after (55€/70€) include the combat beta.
You mean my 75€ tiers can't access to a 50€ tiers combat beta?
Do I have to downgrade to have access to combat beta?
:hahano:

The 55 and 70 EUR rewards are digital only, those backers won't get the physical box.
The tier "Good Old Box + EA + Combat Beta" for 100 EUR (and any tier above) included those early versions as well as the game box.

Hello,
Thanks to AfairFare, we have some videos on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rbhqwTlauc)
I enjoy a lot ergonomy, design, UI and many others things. Finally ! we have a turn based demo which reminds me a lot with nostalgia all good memories of tabletop RPG. I also like hexs, the colors and graphism, which are really sober and not too flashy/intense as many big company games.
To the bad side, it only concerns lore... I m always disappointed when i see a mage breaks the battle with one spell (color spray) cause his area of effect is huge for a spellcaster level 1. I know it comes from D&D 3.5 rules but all these spells are really messed up and some tweaks should be welcome.
Basically, if you want to have an interesting system spells, they have to be equal between them regarding their level and also, stay balanced as long as the mage steps up.
Obviously here, color spray is still too strong for the level 1 and in addition, the spell will be a hit comparing to others level 1 spell at higher level casting.
Then you will always learn the same spell and forget the ones which aren t scaling good enought.
:salute:
PS : for example, the size of the cone could scale from 1 to X depending mage levels.

Loved watching the combat beta :D. The sounds, the love of dnd, and the look really did it for me. Also thanks to Afairfare character creation - ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6SvTJXh3Hk ) and spacejaws combat beta that was almost 5 hrs ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfcizd3BgmM ).... I finally found some questions I wanted to ask.
Will there be subclasses for the base classes or just prestige classes?
For the spellcasters does their wisdom/intelligence modifier help them have more spells to cast in the game or does it really not affect the total spells a caster can make?
Will there be different difficulty settings for the game as well?
Are we able to switch spells out during camp or learn spells from magic scrolls?
-

Right now, we only plan with prestige classes.

The INT attribute actually affects the number of total daily spells available. See the D&D rules here: D&D Wiki Wizard's Spells (https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Wizard#Spells)
Will there be different difficulty settings for the game as well?
Yes, most likely two.
Are we able to switch spells out during camp or learn spells from magic scrolls?
There is no need to switch spells, since our wizards work like sorcerers (no preparation required).
You can already learn more spells from scolls if your character reached the required spell level. That's already in the Combat Beta.
-
Are these prestige classes already in the Combat Beta?
At least hidden in the code, somwhere?
And yeah, I love your game already!
-
Are these prestige classes already in the Combat Beta?
No, those are still under design.

Thank you so much for the detailed response as it helped make sense on some questions. Gives me more reason to get deeper into dnd now :D.
Also after seeing more of the combat beta I noticed that when doing summon monster that it always summons demons. Will it summon different monsters depending on our background and choices or will it only be demons?
Now that I know wizard is like a sorcerer now in a way, will we be able to swap a spell during levelups after a certain point?

Hi,
in one of your early blog posts you mentioned "battle crowds" or "minion crowds". Are these still on the to-do-list or are they already implemented and I just didn't notice it?
The late battles of the Combat Beta (the zombies and skeletons) seem a bit tedious and repetitive with the high HP and DR of the enemies.
Are there streams in which the player didn't get annihilated in those battles?
Thanks for your attention.

No, the group enemies aka "minion crowds" are currently not in use in the current version. Right now, we want to test the basic 3.5e combat first.
We already adjusted the zombies, who had way too many hitpoints.
