Gameplay Discussion / Early access release
« on: April 14, 2021, Wednesday, 10:19 pm »
Yeah, for the Fallen.

But I  wonder if there will be early access on GOG or alternatives too. There are more options beside steam.

At this point there is not gonna be early access nowhere. The game is a risk of being dead. If you haven't heard, check at Discord.
Or how about posting it here, where everyone can easily access it?

They don't bother with the forums as it seems. All comversation is done on Discord.  Right now the company is in a tough spot, most likely they'll close it, buy the assets back and start releasing smaller modules to gain some revenue and get back to full game development again. That is *if* things go "well".

hello,
No communication on Discor, www.realms-beyond.com or on steam. They got € 125,000. And they also had state aid of 100,000 €.
It's a great game, a great demo. But by acting like that. Many people will turn away from the game. It is important to maintain trust. We can understand that there is delay.

Thank you for a new message to tell us where you are?

There is frequent communication on Discrod actually. But all they say is either ranom unrelated stuff (chatting) or that they keep looking for an investor. I was sad I counldn't back the game back then, but now I feel lucky. Sadly :/

This is 2021, is it possible to have information? Have you found funding? Can the project restart? Is it still relevant today?

They are still looking for funding (I guess they miscounted the amount they needed for Kickstarter?). Thara comes frequently in Discord to chat. I used to check daily here and there but I just peek like once avery one or two weeks now.
Doesn't seem bright - they work on the game part-time. It might come out at some point but I wouldn't have my hopes up for this year. Hopefully they'll find someone who wants to invest in such a niche game. Who knows?

@Daveyd  thanks in advance for any combat beta uploading :D

Alright I managed to complete the beta solo with a barbarian this morning.   I think they nerfed enemies in a recent update as I recall getting killed by a giant toad in the swamp with 40 something HP (this time they only had around 15).

Anyway here's the video (HD available).  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pTyPscf-Yo

There's still an issue with the 2nd to the last fight, where it's difficult to move near & target the orc archer.

Thanks a lot! No one ever showed the desert section. Had no idea that existed :)

Unfortunately peple have stopped streaming/uploading demo runs since the 1st week beta was released and this is sad 'cause I'd like to see it to the end.

As for not showing stuff becasue of spoilers, I don't believe this is an excuse. The game is supposed to have a huge variety of side-stuff so if they wanted to show something they could. Screenshots alone would be just fine but I guess this takes a huge amount of effort too (print screen -> paste). Yeah being sarcastic here 'cause I don't know why they don't do that.

Not being able to pay a community manager is understandable as it is that they want to focus on work not "meaningless" updates. Hopefully the game will generate enough hype in the niche crowd it is target to and we'll get to see sequels.

I'm buying day one even if my hype meter has fallen a lot since after the release of the beta (used to stare at screenshots and watching the KS video every other day; for real! :) ).

Hi. It's just a thought, but why you wouldn't make an official walkthrough of beta on YouTube? It seems, there was several attempts from betatesters for last 2 months. "Spacejaws", unfortunatelly, was lazy or busy to complete it and as for "Afairfare" - it's all just his vision for a while. Think complete beta walkthrough will greatly help to promote RB further. We can post it on some local rpg etc. forums in different countries..

You're asking the one developer that the fans are more eager to promote the game than they are

Thank you for your answer.
I am an optimistic person but I begin to have doubts about the project.
No information, image, video, planning for 3 months ...

Making 1 progress point per month is a minimum.

There is some information from the devs themselves via Dicord: they work on the backer beta and have expanded it to become a vertical slice of the game than just a combat demo as initially planned. They talk daily in Discord, though they don't always give any info about progress. Most discussions are mostly geeky unrelated stuff.

I am with everyone though. They could just post a small progress update every a couple of weeks and 5-6 new screenshots. Especially the latter, I don't believe it's that time consuming. Just upload some images. I'm not a backer, of course, and won't be playing the beta, but I'm gonna be a day 1 buyer and am very interested in this game. It's a type of game I miss and although it doesn't bring anything new to the table, I like to play a classic roleplay adventure now and then and this looks the perfect game to be just that :)

EDIT: one of the devs confirmed yesterday in Discord that the beat will be ready in a couple of weeks.

It's a realistic estimation, then, that the game won't be out before 2021? I don't complain, though; I'm fine. I'm just trying to adjust my gaming budget plan.

Last "update" from Discord: "in a few weeks" (probably 3-6 but who knows, maybe they're joking).

Resting is a very tricky mechanic in video games and very rarely did it implemented correctly. In procedurally generated games and rogue-likes, games with perma-death or expendable party members (games that are of the last decade mostly) works great, because it usually gives you some limited meaningful choices (think in Darkest Dungeon or Slay the Spire). In story-driven games, on the other hand, is always a tedious and pointless system. Never ever did I liked resting in any kind of these gaems. Pathfinder made it interesting for me, but only in local areas (not world map) because there was unique party banter. When you play a game with a fixed storyline, locations etc, you don't want to spend time bothering with were to eat or fish etc, even if hunger or thirst or exhaustion are implemented in the games core mechanics, because you want to progress the story and the characters and you will never ever lose a party member to mundane stuff such as hunger etc. You will just reload the game or travel back to a village and resupply or whatever and this makes the game a slog and feeling out of focus. I also don't like pre-rest spell mechanics in video games. They suck - but this is another topic :P

In any case, I really do hope the devs have a neat idea as how to implement resting and I really hope it works great and maybe as an example for future games - 'cause I like it as an "idea" a lot!
The camp system was implemented more than a year ago. What we want, or, in a selfish opinion, they want to remove from the game what they do not like, is too late to ask and reflect. It is already there. I want the rest or not, like in children. A camp system was proposed prior to fundraising. All etol suited! Why ask for what is not feasible. Or do you think that any person’s desire is law and respect? Yes. I agree. BUT then what will we do with the desires of other people? They also invested money, and they are satisfied with what has already been implemented! The delirium of egoists is not a topic. A choice was suggested in the difficulty mode at the beginning of the game. There is no other way. Understand, everyone here loves themselves. I am sure that the developers will take this into account.

Where do I say I demand it to be removed? :)

Gameplay Discussion / Player Dimension: Hero or Group?

I, for one, believe it's cool that the game gives you a full party creation. Not that I think it's better than the "main char who finds companions" style, just there are a lot of those out there and none of this.
