News & Announcements / Combat Beta Released to Backers
« on: May 25, 2020, Monday, 03:41 am »
Thank you.  I am really impressed with what you've done here
in the four hour combat beta I watched.  Love to be a part of this once
I can.  I appreciate you taking the time to give a response and look
forward to participating when I can.

Wait until you play it, my friend!  It's a blast, even in the incomplete state it's in.

Gameplay Discussion / Party make up conjectures

Realms Beyond will initially offer two different point systems for attributes:
  • Roll the dice and freely assign the results
  • Point Buy with increasing costs the higher the attribute
Our approach is very much inspired by ToEE obviously  :salute:
Regarding the rolling method: will this be a straight (simulation of ) 3d6 rolled 6 times or will there be some kind of 'weighting' system (e.g. simulating rolling 4d6 and then eliminating the lowest die result)?

First, we had best 3d6 of 4d6, but because you can assign every roll to one attribute, we removed that benefit again - the results were just too good compared with point buy.

Sorry, more question about attribute generation: can you share the exact point buy system?

I'm assuming that the point buy will cost 1 point up to 13, 2 points from 14 to 15, . 3 points from. 16 to 17 and 4 points for 18 (before modifiers).

What is the default starting attribute? Maybe 8 or 10? Can you reduce an attribute to get more points for others? How many points do you start with?

Also, with the rolling method: will it be like Baldur's Gate where you can reduce one attribute to add to another?

(I'm trying to plan out my characters!)

Gameplay Discussion / We need to see more gameplay!

There will be a combat beta this summer and we currently  plan to focus on this version.

Are we still on target for this summer? As in, prior to September 24th?

We're trying to finish the version as soon as possible but since we decided to add the almost final version of the character creation process, it takes longer than orginally planned.

Ha ha, nice! I'll be able to try out different party combinations! I assumed that we would have a set party for the beta, but I like this much better

Ah yes, understandable

I'm guessing it's either a closed beta or public but under NDA. In any case that's news to me, it's good that the game is progressing into beta. Thanks for the info.

Errrm, what? Who mentioned NDA?

The closed beta aka Combat beta for KS backers will definitely not require an NDA.

Cool cool. Will we be allowed to release our sessions as a YouTube video?

Gameplay Discussion / Bestiary and inspection
« on: June 24, 2019, Monday, 06:25 am »
I'm assuming something like Pathfinder: Kingmaker(?)

Well ya, kind of. But still have to roll for it to discover the monsters strong points and vulnerabilities.

Yeah, I think in pathfinder, you get more information as you fight more monsters.

But yeah, you should get a role to see what you know about them (weaknesses and such)

Script System / Please avoid these mistakes with your UrWelt editor
« on: March 06, 2019, Wednesday, 07:28 am »
HobGoblin, which approach does the game have to Mods? Neverwinter-night like or the Elder Scrolls like?

If you want to change existing elements, you need to replace the related configuration files and scripts with your modified versions.

To add new elements, e.g. new races, spells, feats, items, etc. you can simply add new configuration files that be will be included by the game automatically.

So it's a bit of a hybrid? New materials and stuff can be picked up automatically but won't appear in a game unless placed or replacing something?

Is there a dynamic database of sorts?

What about ruleset changes?

My guess is that would be a matter of changing existing elements, by replacing existing files and/or scripts...

Gameplay Discussion / Monsters That are in The Game? Level Limit?

I know there are no Aboleths.

Word of developers is that the system is a baseline 3.5, so it wouldn't be possible to, say, make an AD&D conversion.

They also want to modify certain rules such as alignment, but I really hope someone is keeping track of all these changes from 3.5.

Yeah, I hope they try to stay true to the 3.5 ruleset as possible.  Of course, wishing for a "TOEE2" would be too much to ask for right?

Honestly, it's looking a bit like toee2, tbh.

Gameplay Discussion / Children?
« on: December 04, 2018, Tuesday, 04:14 pm »
Are there children in the game? Are they immortal?

Yes, there will be children in the game. They are invulnerable because they won't join a combat and they are not affected by damage spells.

I now want to make a 'harsh world' mod...

Cool! I remember spending hours playing a mini game in might and magic (forget what it was called).

Will gaming help with sanity? I'm quite interested in that stat.

I can see that skills already play a role so cool.

Also, will skills come into play? It makes sense that characters with high perception would make better guards and characters with high performance would be more entertaining (increasing sanity?) Etc
